Victoria star Jenna cheekily sticks out her tongue at the television cameras

ACTRESS Jenna Coleman might be playing Queen Victoria but she showed she was amused last week, sticking her tongue out at the cameras as the second series was filmed.

Jenna, 30, was dressed in period garb as she arrived at Beverley Minster, East Yorkshire, to film scenes with on and off-screen other half Tom Hughes, also 30, who plays Prince Albert.

Last year Beverley Minster was used to mimic Westminster Abbey. The pair are thought to have been filming a christening scene, after the last series ended with the birth of their first child.

The new series is set in the 1840s, the decade in which the monarch gave birth to six of her nine children.

It is expected that this series will see Victoria struggle to balance her family life and her role as the Queen of 450 million people – a quarter of the world’s population. The Queen will also be forced to face the Irish potato famine of 1845, when more than a million people died.

Screenwriter Daisy Goodwin said: “Even though she reigned in the 19th century, Victoria is a heroine for our times.

“She faces the very modern dilemma of how to juggle children with her husband and her job.

“As Victoria will discover it’s hard to be a wife, a mother and ruler of the most powerful nation on earth.”

In December Jenna said: “It’s really exciting. There’s so much story. It’s a case of pacing it and working out where to go with it.

“There are nine children to have, so there is a long way to go.”

The series, which launched at the end of August last year, saw ratings success, with each episode averaging 7.7 million viewers and a 29.7 per cent share of the audience for ITV.

The former Doctor Who actress is joined by BAFTA-nominated Rufus Sewell, who stars as Lord Melbourne, and Torchwood star Eve Myles, who plays Mrs Jenkins, the Queen’s dresser.

Jenna portrays the Queen from the time of her ascension, at the tender age of 18, through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.
