Hat-trick hero: Ireland like World Cup final

JONATHAN JOSEPH admits that England will prepare for Ireland next Saturday like it was a World Cup final as they bid for back-to-back Grand Slams.

The Bath centre yesterday became only the second player in Six Nations history, after Ireland great Brian O’Driscoll, to score two hat-tricks.

Joseph, who crossed three times against Italy last season, missed England’s last game against the Italians after being sent back to Bath to find form. He said the celebratio­ns will be kept to a minimum as England meet up at their Surrey base tomorrow and prepare to write themselves into the history books.

Joseph (right) said: “If we end up losing next week will be massively disappoint­ed. We want to win the Grand Slam.

“We are going to train unbelievab­ly hard and make it like it’s our World Cup final, we will go into it and give it our all. This game will be up there with my best ever but the boys inside created that.” England coach Eddie Jones warned Ireland would love to gatecrash England’s Grand Slam party. He said: “Ireland love to spoil a party and the party that they would love to spoil the most is the England party.” THREE-TIME squash world champion Nick Matthew gave away his prize money after winning a record sixth Canary Wharf Classic title in London. The world No4 donated his winnings to Sumner Malik, 11, an English squash player who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour.
