Sheeran declares engagement to Cherry
CHART-topping Ed Sheeran has announced his engagement to his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn.
The musician, 26, shared the news with his 18 million followers on Instagram yesterday, saying: “Got myself a fiancee just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.”
Last year the singer credited Seaborn, whom he has been dating since 2015, with nursing him after a cycling accident. He said she “had to brush my teeth”, and she is a “good woman”. They have been friends since school but got together in 2015, spending most of 2016 travelling while he took a year off from music.
Seaborn, 25, helped England U21s win hockey bronze at the 2012 European Championships.
Last year Sheeran said: “It’s awesome meeting famous people. But that’s not life. That’s not reality. One day this will end. And I know the one person that’s going to remain con- stant is Cherry. I should just enjoy this while it’s there but not let it become my reality.”
The singer-songwriter’s third studio album Divide has had a run at the top of the charts and his single Perfect, inspired by Seaborn, was the Christmas number one.
Shape Of You was the biggest selling single in the UK last year.
He has been nominated at next month’s Brit awards for album of the year, British single, British video and British male.
