Let’s have the biggest party since Olympics

-

JACOB REES-MOGG has thrown his support behind a “Festival of Brexit” after we leave the EU.

The Cabinet Office did not rule out a celebration of our departure on March 29 2019 and public support for such an event could outstrip the success of the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.

North East Somerset Tory MP Mr ReesMogg said: “A Festival of Brexit would be excellent. There should be a huge celebration and in the spirit of friendship of our European neighbours, upon leaving we should drink lots of champagne to say that though we may be leaving the European Union, we don’t dislike Europe.”

Theresa May has insisted we are leaving the EU but not Europe, even in an interview with Germany’s Bild magazine yesterday, declaring: “Wir verlassen die EU, aber nicht Europa!” (We leave the EU, but not Europe.)

Mr Rees-Mogg also said Royal Mail should be “thoroughly ashamed” for rejecting a “Brexit Day” set of stamps, saying he initially thought that “it’s politically contentious and the Royal Mail is not in the business of political controversy, fine”.

But he added: “They then said that they didn’t think it was important enough, which I just thought was so stupid that it’s a matter of controversy but overwhelming importance and if that’s their excuse for not having a stamp…they do have some pretty trivial things.”
