Teenage pair are killed in ‘drink driver’ road crash

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after two teenagers died in a horror smash early yesterday.

The 19-year-olds, a man and woman, were pronounced dead at the roadside just before 1am.

The driver of the other after the collision but was down by police.

The accident happened on the A46 Lincoln bypass after midnight.

A local man in his 20s failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving, providing a positive breath test and leaving the scene of a collision.

A Lincolnshi­re Police spokesman said: “The occupants of a blue Ford Mondeo estate, a man and a woman both 19, were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The other vehicle, a white Citroen C3, left the scene and was later traced and the driver, a 26-year-old local man, was arrested.

“We have traced the immediate family of the victims and broken this car left tracked desperatel­y sad news to them. Anyone who was on the bypass between the Carholme and Skellingth­orpe roundabout­s between about 0.30am and 0.50am and saw either the white Citroen C3 or the blue Mondeo estate before the collision or saw the collision itself is asked to contact police on 101.”

The road was closed for eight hours for police accident investigat­ion officers to gather evidence.

In a separate incident in Lincolnshi­re yesterday a driver was badly injured when his Mitsubishi Lancer collided with a lorry near Boston just after 6am.

The police spokesman said: “Emergency services were called to Hubberts Bridge near Boston this morning about 6.10am where a Mitsubishi Lancer and a lorry transporti­ng fresh produce had been in collision.

“The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre at Nottingham for treatment to serious injuries.”
