by women, is still as wide ,000-£250,000 s which finished filming last month, which is considerably less than what actor Derek Thompson earns on Casualty, taking home between £300,000-£350,000 from Holby General. Not bad for a hospital orderly.

Reluctantly, Emilia says of the published salaries: “It’s something the BBC has to do and it’s transparent so that if you work for them, that’s what happens.”

And the gender gap? “I think the goal is – and I feel it with all areas of work – the goal is to make things as balanced as possible with gender. We’re moving into a different time when things needs to be exposed and have been hidden for some time and not dealt with.

“I try to look on the brighter side of things that some things are coming up and are being talked about and hopefully will change. You look at a production like Delicious which has got women at its heart and they are employed in front of, and behind, the camera.

“The production champions that and highlights that as an issue and example and that’s very good but please can we not ostracise men as we do it. Let’s have a balance. If you tip it too far the other way, we will have another problem. We can’t solve the issue in one day but hopefully we will reach a balance.”

We discuss Emilia’s daughter Rose and her decision to avoid the Fox acting inheritance and forge a career away from the stage. “She still doesn’t want to become an actress. The reason why is that she doesn’t want to get up that early. Good call! Quite right, I think. She also doesn’t consider it to be a proper job, it’s more of a hobby! She thinks it’s just for fun.

“I actually shoot Silent Witness just five minutes away from home. It means I can have a proper family life with her.

“But she’s busier than I am. I’ve become a driver, taking her to activities.”

Does she dream of ever running a place like the Penrose? “No, It would have gone terribly wrong!”

For fans of Emilia Fox, it’s reassuring news.

‘My daughter doesn’t want to become an actress. The reason why is she doesn’t want to get up that early!’

Delicious is on Sky One and NOW TV at 9pm on Friday
