Brexit bonus pledge to pay for elderly and maternity support

SUPPORT for the elderly to remain independent and avoid hospital trips will be unveiled this week.

With the NHS marking its 70th birthday Theresa May is to reveal proposals to revolutionise it with the £20.5billion Brexit bonus for a long-term plan.

A key promise of the Leave campaign was that the billions sent to Brussels each year could be used to boost the NHS.

The Prime Minister will also pledge that Britain will have the world’s best maternity care with extra safety and mental health support for parents.

There will be a massive investment in improving treatment for all major conditions and help for those recovering from serious diseases.

Mrs May promised the NHS will be brought into the digital age with more online access for GP services and better appointments procedures. Finally, the Prime

Minister has vowed that tens of thousands more doctors and nurses will be employed while there will be a drive to slash wasteful NHS spending and focus it on patient care.

She said: “The NHS has always been the country’s most beloved public service – there to provide outstanding care to us all whenever it is needed.

“The launch of the NHS Long Term Plan marks an historic step to secure its future and offers a vision for the service for the next 10 years, with a focus on ensuring that every pound is spent in a way that will most benefit patients.

“This will help relieve pressure on the NHS while providing the basis to transform care with world-class treatments.

“Backed by our record investment of £20.5billion a year in real terms by 2023/24, this shows what we can achieve with a strong economy and a focus on people’s priorities.”
