I lost three babies after having our little girl

-

BALEENA MATTU, 35, had her first child nearly a decade ago but went on to lose three unborn babies, two at 19 weeks and one at 20.

The property consultant said: “It is devastating when it happens so many times and after each one people tell you it can’t possibly happen again. The doctors couldn’t explain why, having gone full-term with my daughter Kyira in 2010, I should have lost the next three so early on.

“Kyira was laying in the wrong position and the obstetrician said they would need to do a caesarian section to get her safely out. I agreed. It was an emergency operation but everything seemed to go well.”

In 2011 Baleena fell pregnant again but was rushed to hospital with bleeding and told she was losing her baby.

She lost two more before a new consultant suspected the problem was related to her c-section delivery.

“He said he was confident the next time I got pregnant I could go to full term. He explained what had happened to me and offered a stitch in my cervix to strengthen it so that it was less likely to give way.”

Now 31 weeks pregnant, Baleena is due to give birth in spring. She said: “Having had it happen to you three times, I couldn’t believe it when the weeks went by and I was still pregnant. Being pregnant still at Christmas was the best present ever.”
