Dyche is kept waiting by VAR
VAR couldn’t rescue brave Barnsley a second time as the League One club suffered added time heartbreak.
The controversial system gave them an unexpected lifeline in the first-half when Burnley striker Matej Vydra was halted in his run up after initially being awarded a penalty. The spot kick was scrapped because VAR ruled Vydra was offside before the illegal challenge on him.
But there was no doubt in added time when Vydra was tripped in the box by Liam Lindsay and Chris Woods netted the penalty.
Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: “I’m a big fan of the concept (VAR) but I know it will take time to iron out. I’d say it was a good 80 to 90 seconds before they came to a final decision. Me and my staff decided in four seconds that it was offside.
“The referee should have taken hold of the ball and moved outside the area until a decision was made.”

“I know VAR from my time managing in Germany. It is a good thing but sometimes in Germany it takes too long. Here the decision also took too long.”
