PULISIC’S SWEET DREAM REALISED Christian choc-a-block with talent

- By Steve Bates

E comes from ‘Chocolate Town’ and American star Christian Pulisic is the new flavour of the moment in Hershey, Pennsylvania. were around him and with him on a personal level, he was definitely a very fun kid.

“He liked to joke around and play table tennis.

“We always knew early on that he was going to be a special player but to be honest you never know how special someone will be.

“At a younger age, probably from the age of six, he had very good vision and at eight and nine you could see he was going to be a very good player.

“And I would say that once he was 13 or 14 you thought, ‘This kid has what it takes to be a great pro’.”

And Chelsea, who have loaned Pulisic back to Dortmund for the rest of the season, haven’t only signed a top footballer – they have gained an intelligent, driven and ambitious athlete who sets his targets and reaches them.

His maths teacher at Hershey Middle School, Dave Yingst, said: “I just taught him algebra but if you had a class full of kids like Christian every day then everyone would be happy.

“He had a soccer talent but he was also a model student and we’re extremely proud of Christian.

“He’s embraced his roots here in Hershey and hasn’t forgotten where he’s come from. He even has it on his Twitter page – ‘Straight outta

Hershey’.

“To all of us here, that matters to him and to us.

Chelsea are getting not just a top player but a top guy too.”

Having moved to

Dortmund at the age of 15 with his footballer father Mark, Pulisic overcame every obstacle to become the youngest-ever

Bundesliga Player of the Year at just 19 years old.

And the attacker believes that work ethic also bodes well for his time at

Chelsea. Pulisic said: “As a kid I had a goal in mind and I wouldn’t stop until I reached that.

“I learned a lot, especially from my dad.

He was the biggest influence for me.

“Just to go to Germany and experience a whole new culture, it was really tough for me. Next season I will have a new challenge in English football at Chelsea.

“And I will put everything into making it a success, just as I have done at Dortmund.”
