Dom learns from legend at Goodison

- PLAYING TODAY: EVERTON v BOURNEMOUTH By Steve Millar

DOMINIC CALVERT-LEWIN doesn’t need reminding that he’s following in famous footsteps as an Everton marksman.

Go back to the legend himself, Dixie Dean, in the roaring Twenties and Thirties, and fast forward through the years from Joe Royle to Bob Latchford,

Andy Gray and Graeme Sharp, who have written themselves into Everton folklore with their deadly goalscoring.

But 21-year-old Calvert-Lewin (above) isn’t fazed by the task ahead – he has another legendary striker in the huge shape of Duncan Ferguson on his side, pushing him to greatness.

Calvert-Lewin said: “They’re big boots to fill but I’ve got Duncan Ferguson with me on the training pitch helping my game.

“It’s a pressure that I quite like and think I can grow into. It’s only going to make me a better player. Over the last year, having filled out a little bit and naturally grown a bit more, there’s nobody better to go to than Duncan (above) with the physical side of the game.

“That was his game – in the air and with his back to goal. Me receiving the ball to feet this season and being more reliable, I’ve got to thank Dunc for that.

“In terms of finishing he just says, ‘Stick to what you’re good at. Don’t try and change if you’re in a certain area. Just stick to it through repetition and you’ll find the back of the net’.

“As a kid, one of my heroes was Thierry Henry. He was a top player, one of my idols growing up.

“There was also

Didier Drogba. Watching him as a young kid in the Premier League, I think he had a little bit of everything.”
