Bid for perfection cost Murray dear
ANDY MURRAY wore out his body in search of perfection, Amelie Mauresmo has claimed.
His former French coach revealed the Scot, 31, was already suffering from hip problems when they were working together between 2014 and 2016.
Murray (right) is now back in the UK considering a second hip operation which could potentially end his career – or see him return for Wimbledon this summer.
The British ace and Mauresmo reached two Australian Open Finals together before agreeing to part ways in May
2016.
Murray then went on an incredible run of winning Wimbledon, Olympic gold and five consecutive tournaments to finish the season as world No1. And after losing in the first round at the Australian Open, Murray admitted that he regretted not taking greater care of his body.
When asked if Murray’s bid to top the world rankings caused his hip problems, Mauresmo said: “It was really his quest to win Grand Slams, the search for perfection.
“It is not normal what we ask of our bodies in all sports.
“With his quest to become No1, he played more tournaments to achieve it but he already had his hip problem.
“With me, it was already there and we had to manage it. His resistance to pain makes him push himself even more.”
