CRYSTAL PALACE v TOTTENHAM TODAY: ROY: LAY OFF POCHETTINO He says it’s not just about trophies

- By Tony Stenson

OY HODGSON pits his Crystal Palace side against Spurs today – hailing their manager Mauricio Pochettino as one of the great managers in football. only going to call managers who have won a trophy any good, then basically you have four or five.”

Asked if that is why Pochettino is high on Manchester United’s wanted list, he added: “It is none of my business where he goes. I’m just reacting to the fact that if the be-all and end-all of your ability is have you got a trophy to your name, I find that hard to understand.

“It’s so naïve in terms of what the job of being a football coach is all about. Unfortunately, you are just dooming 97 to 98 per cent of all the people working in football as failures because they may not have a chance of winning a trophy. What about the Rotherham manager?

“I don’t know who he is, I don’t know much about Rotherham, but he might be doing a great job.

Is he going to be a hopeless manager all his life who never wins a trophy? I don’t see it, I’m sorry.

“You’ve got to knock

Man City off their perch, then Manchester United,

Chelsea, Arsenal. That’s not an easy one to win.

“Maybe, if he goes to somewhere like Spain or Germany, his chance of winning a trophy will be greater.

But the fact is I don’t know what his relationship with Tottenham is, but the praise he gets is fully deserved.”
