ANDERTON’S SO QUICK TO HAIL RED-HOT SON

- By Tom Hopkinson

DARREN ANDERTON has hailed the impact of Heung-min Son at his old club Tottenham, saying the South Korean is sharper than he was.

Tottenham take on Leicester today thankful that South Korean Son has returned from Asia Cup duty with a bang, scoring their first goal as Spurs came from behind to beat Watford in his first game back, then bagging the winner against Newcastle three days later.

Those strikes made it 10 goals in Son’s last 12 Premier League outings at a time when Tottenham have been without talisman Harry Kane.

Anderton (above), who played around 300 games in 12 years at Spurs, said: “He’s been on fire.

“When he first came he excited the crowd but sometimes he’d give the ball away. But he’s just got better and better, which is typical of players under Mauricio Pochettino – he just improves them.

“Defenders must hate playing against him as he doesn’t do the easy thing.

“His quality, left or right-footed, is different class. He’s been one of the players of the season.”

Like Son (top), Anderton was a gifted winger and he added: “I don’t know if there are any similarities between us – he’s sharper than me.

“When Sonny plays, teams sit deeper and deeper, and that gives Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen room to make things happen.”
