HUGO AWAKE FOR A FIGHT

- By Tony Stenson

TOTTENHAM skipper Hugo Lloris revealed winning the World Cup left him so drained he spent a day in bed but now the keeper is fully recovered for a battle.

The France keeper’s golden moment in Moscow is locked in his memory bank, ready to be released when the boots are hung up.

But first Lloris has more pressing engagements. He said: “I am up for the fight. It’s okay to dream of the title but it is important to have a bit of sense too.

“The main target is to get into the top four for the fourth time in a row. That doesn’t mean we lack ambition. The ambition is to win every game until the end of the season.”

Lloris admits winning the World Cup changed him as a person. He added: “It’s the kind of consecration you are running after. It gives credit to all the work you have done in all your career.

“Time is going so fast. You are still talking about the World Cup. I don’t want to say I’ve forgotten about it but I’m focused on today and tomorrow. For me, it belongs to the past.”

Lloris (above) said his drink-drive ban also changed him and he is humbled that manager Mauricio Pochettino (left) showed faith by letting him keep the captaincy.

He added: “You need support in that type of situation. I had that support from my family, mates, manager, the club and fans. This is why I want to do so well for Tottenham.”
