Royals revel in a sporty weekend
AS the Duke and Duchess of Sussex jetted off to Morocco, the Queen enjoyed a misty morning ride round Windsor Castle with son Prince Andrew yesterday.
The Monarch, 92, wore a long waterproof jacket and head scarf, while Andrew wore a hacking jacket and riding helmet as they made their way around the grounds.
It was the second Saturday ride in row for the Duke of
York and his mother, who was on a smaller black horse.
Keen Andrew, who celebrated his 59th birthday on Tuesday, later rode out on a brown horse with a member of the royal estate.
The Queen is often seen riding a black Fell pony named Carltonlima Emma, a longtime favourite. She developed a life long passion for riding after receiving her first pony – Peggy – at the age of four.
As well as regularly attending the annual Royal Windsor Horse Show she is a regular fixture at race meetings. She has also been known to take visiting dignitaries out for a ride, including President Ronald Reagan during his visit in 1982. Meanwhile, daughter Princess Anne, 68, attended the much-anticipated Six Nations rugby clash between Wales and England in
Cardiff and saw the Welsh triumph 21-13.
But there was no sign of Prince
William, 36, a patron of the Welsh
Rugby Union.
