Good riddance, but time for a step back

-

THE HAND-WRINGING liberals have had a tough time of it this past week with the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani – an action sanctioned by their biggest bogeyman and hate figure, US President Donald Trump.

Much of the reaction to the missile strike on the hardline leader of the Quds Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has been absurdly skewed. Listening to coverage on some of our TV stations, you’d be excused for thinking he was a cross between Mother Theresa and Bambi.

Let’s get one thing absolutely straight: as Prime Minister Boris Johnson rightly said, this is a man “with the blood of British troops on his hands”.as he’s been in command of an organisation with an off-shoot of a terrorist group for two decades, what do you suppose that might make him? Akela perhaps, or Peacekeeper in Chief?

The organisation he led has been engaged in terrorism in countries such as Lebanon, Yemen, Syria and, of course, Iraq. An international travel ban had been imposed on this ruthless killer and the UN had imposed a financial restriction order on any assets he had overseas.

Last year, a British tanker was seized in the Straits of Hormuz after Iranian troops descended from a helicopter. Add to this that the current Iranian government wishes to keep advancing until all Israelis are pushed into the sea, and you start to get a feel for this bunch of international murderers and terror-mongers.

While that would seem to be enough for most of us, the human rights activists, lawyers, peace campaigners, Us-haters and “Middle East experts” have been forming queues to get on TV and radio here and in the US. The BBC and Channel 4 showed footage of protesters burning the Union Flag and the Stars and Stripes in Tehran as if this had never been witnessed before.

Some demonstrators would probably set flags alight if Britain won the Eurovision Song Contest.

The parade of nay-sayers has, predictably, been joined by the usual suspects from the world of politics. As Jeremy Corbyn has seemingly never encountered an enemy of the UK he didn’t support, who the hell does he think he is to lecture the House of Commons about the legality of the US action? His Marxist pal John Mcdonnell also expressed his opposition, but you know what... who cares?

These are the two biggest Labour losers in nearly 80 years. The idea that this duo, who have been cosying up to terrorists and

WHILE he will baulk at the notion – and, admittedly, it makes him sound like the old Queen Mother – Ricky Gervais is fast becoming a national treasure. His utterly superb destruction of the grotesque preening and pomposity of the Hollywood Golden Globes awards was nothing short of a masterclass. No woke nor PC obsession was spared. Award winners were told to give brief acceptance speeches and then clear off – although it was, in truth, a far stronger word that he chose! Prince Andrew, Jeffrey Epstein, Dame Judi Dench, James Corden, Harvey Weinstein and Brad Pitt were just some of those on the receiving end of the barbs that flew like darts from the hand of new world champ Peter “Snakebite” Wright.

But for many his best gag was the suggestion that he had refused to play the usual In Memoriam tribute to stars who had died over the previous 12 months because “it was mostly white people” and “wasn’t diverse enough”.

Given the subsequent row over the “too white Bafta nominations” that broke 48 hours later, this was truly genius Gervais.

terrorist sympathisers for decades, can lecture us about international security is as laughable as their campaign that failed so spectacularly last month. Equally as derisory is the battery of claims from so many of these spluttering “experts” who warned we were on the verge of a Third World War and Iran would unleash untold hell.

Not for one moment minimising the danger of terror attacks across

Europe, many of the bombs they directed at the two US airbases mercifully missed their targets.

When Barack Obama sanctioned the killing of Osama Bin Laden in 2011, the world rightly breathed a sigh of relief, so why should this be different? Put it down to the loathing these armchair generals have for Trump and many things American.

Only time will tell how Iran will react, but we must all hope and pray to our respective gods that everyone continues to march back from the brink.

A SENIOR royal announces he is to quit “the firm” as he’s head over heels in love with a divorced American woman. Ever heard that before? All right, Prince Harry and Meghan’s shock decision to “step back” from their roles as “senior members of the family” isn’t on the level of the Abdication, but it will rock the House of Windsor to its core.

In recent months, Harry seems to have been struggling with emotional health issues and if this is in response to that, he has to be respected.

However, allowing for that, there are still concerns to address:

WHY didn’t he have the courtesy to inform the Queen prior to announcing the news?

HOW on earth does he expect to match his current lifestyle and income?

WHAT makes him think the media will no longer pursue him and Meghan if they become the hottest power couple in North America since George and Amal Clooney?

Add the fact that they have said they want to hang on to the “cottage” you and I have spent £2.4million renovating – even though they’ll be away much of the year – as well as police protection at £600,000 a year, and this so-called bombshell becomes even more baffling.

After all, if you leave any other firm you don’t expect to take the company car with you...
