MY TV LIFE
Tom Davis
Lofty actor and stand-up comedian Tom, 6ft 7in, co-created and starred in the BBC Three comedy crime series Murder In Successville
What was your first TV memory?
Watching horse racing at my grandad’s – that would be playing at his house most of the time. But the first show I really remember was Only Fools And Horses, watching that as a kid and it all sticking in my head.that’s what I remember most about growing up, that and the smoking...
What was your first TV appearance?
Big Brother when they did the Celebrity Hijack. I went in with Keith Lemon playing a 15-year-old who Keith was looking after, although I think I was about 32 at the time. Mind you, in truth I looked 32 when I was 15.
Who was your first TV crush?
My mind races back to Miss Piggy... I just love a strong woman! It was probably Jet from the Gladiators.
What is your favourite current show?
Succession. As a drama it’s just different class. The writing, the performance, it’s as close to a perfect TV show as you could get. I love Hunted too but it’s bad for my blood pressure, I get so involved in it.
Which TV show would you take to a desert island?
Part of me thinks Only Fools And Horses, another part thinks The Sopranos which was the greatest show ever made. But if you’re on a desert island for a long time, it would have to be Fools And Horses. I could watch that over and over, and I love this country – it would always remind me of home and South London.
What TV show would you like to put out of its misery?
Geordie Shore – it’s everything that’s wrong about television. I used to watch it with my wife but there’s no charm in it now.
Guiltiest TV pleasure?
Junior Bake Off – it’s one of the best things I’ve seen on TV, a nice show.there was a kid called Vaughan who was always happy, always tried his best... such a sweet boy. He was everything we should try to be as people.
What are you up to at the moment?
King Gary, it’s just started, a working class sitcom loosely based on people I know in an area I’m proud to come from.
We have a great tradition of workingclass comedy – Porridge, Only Fools And Horses – and I’d love to be part of that.
