Bamber bake-off

Family murderer recipe ‘fun’ for fans

- By Phil Cardy

KILLER Jeremy Bamber is running a twisted copy of The Great British Bake Off and wants fans to cook cakes from his recipes.

Bamber, 59, serving life for slaughtering his family, has passed on his favourite recipes, including one by his mother June – one of five people he shot dead.

Others uploaded to his site include a golden syrup cake, black forest gateau, apple charlotte and a fruit cake. It is seen as a way for followers to “connect” with “victim” Bamber.

The 1985 murders he committed are at the centre of ITV’S sixpart drama White House Farm, starring Freddie Fox as the killer.

A band of campaigners, who run the killer’s web page and Instagram, revealed that images of fans’ cakes are sent to him at top-security HMP Wakefield, in West Yorkshire.

His site says: “Remember the Bake-off is about acknowledging Jeremy as a victim of crime and honouring his mother’s memory. This enables supporters to connect with Jeremy in a way that is personal. He has suffered a tragedy and a 30-year injustice, and this needs to be acknowledged. “Jeremy has spoken about his mum’s love of baking and now it’s your turn. It’s time to get creative as Jeremy shares some of his favourite childhood recipes with us. “Forward pictures of your masterpieces for them to appear on Jeremy’s Instagram page. Have fun and be imaginative.”

Several images have been uploaded, including a chocolate cake from a well-wisher in Leeds and a fruit creation from someone in Cheshire. Supporters are also urged to write to the killer and send him stationery supplies and reading material.

His web page lists a range of items that can be sent but warns that pads bound with wire will not be accepted.

“Do not send cards with organic or other material stuck on them, glitter, sticky pads or concealed sections.

“Cards with glitter are banned for security reasons.”

Bamber is serving a whole life sentence for the murders. He has maintained his innocence since being jailed in 1986 for the crime that shocked a nation.

Bamber was convicted of shooting dead parents Nevill and June, adopted sister Sheila Caffell, 28, and her six-year-old twins Daniel and Nicholas at the family’s farmhouse in the village of Tolleshunt D’arcy, Essex.

The prosecution convinced the jury that after committing the murders to secure a large inheritance, Bamber put the gun into the hands of Sheila, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, to make the scene appear to be a murder-suicide.
