MY TV LIFE
Natalie Ann Jamieson
Geordie actress Natalie is best known for her long-running role as Amy Wyatt on Emmerdale
What was your first TV memory?
Compo going downhill in a bathtub on Last Of The Summerwine on a Sunday night. I have a really strong memory of that. And Nora Batty’s wrinkled stockings. I also remember a children’s show called ZZZAP! which was a giant comic book brought to life. One comic strip was called Daisy Daresyou about a naughty little girl with pigtails. I loved her!
Who was your first TV crush?
Adam Rickitt, Nicktilsley in Coronation Street, and his hair curtains! In magazines, it was all the boys with curtains.
What was your first TV appearance?
I played Karen, the wife of the murderer on Vera – that’s a spoiler if anyone’s not seen it! Brenda Blethyn is incredible and lovely to learn from. She gives you advice happily. I remember her telling me “You could take a bit more for yourself – don’t give me so much.”
What is your favourite current show?
I really enjoy What We Do Inthe Shadows. It’s a mockumentary about vampire flatmates in New Jersey and it’s incredible. I binge watched that. It’s brilliant.
Which TV show would you take to a desert island?
Modern Family because there are 11 seasons and it’d keep me going for a while. It’s very funny and my go-to thing.when it ended last month I knew I was going to cry.
What TV show would you like to put out of its misery?
Sunderland ’Til I Die. I haven’t watched it, it’s just because I’m a Newcastle fan!
Guiltiest TV pleasure?
I loved Tiger King and true crime documentaries, but I’d say my guilty pleasure is anything to do with antiques. I’m as happy as Larry watching them. I’d love to do the celebrity version ofantiques Roadtrip except there’s a good chance I’d be rubbish but the experience would be worth it. I love afternoon quiz shows too.
What are you up to at the moment?
I’m quarantining of course but jobwise I’m very much enjoying my role on Emmerdale. And my new podcast!
● Natalie’s podcast Ad Libbing, with fellow actor Aliward and including “off-the-cuff conversations with friends from stage and screen”, launches tomorrow.
