YEARS...THE COST OF HORROR ON THE WAY
Vocal support for choirs
CHOIRS at 44 cathedrals are performing “together” to record a charity song to help struggling choristers.
All 269 volunteers have sent in individual clips from devices to be edited together for Sing Forever.
Former chorister Aled Jones and opera star Elizabethwatts have taken part. Singing in churches and cathedrals has been banned due to Covid-19.
Many professional choirs have seen income slump and choristers furloughed.
Organiser Ashley Grote, Master of Music at Norwich Cathedral, said:
“It’s probably the largest group of choristers that have ever sung together in this country. It’s an amazing sound.
“They’re all recorded on iphones, on tablets, just in their own homes.”
Pointless host Alexander Armstrong, a former chorister who is backing the Cathedral Choirs’ Emergency Fund trying to raise £1million, said: “I hope those that enjoy this song will contribute generously.”
