Authors accused of being couple’s cheerleaders in their campaign

- By Berny Torre

THE authors of Harry and Meghan’s biography Finding Freedom have been called cheerleaders of the couple.

Omid Scobie, the 33-year-old royal editor of Harper’s Bazaar, and his co-author Carolyn Durand met while covering royal engagements and agreed to write a book at the time of the Sussexes’ wedding two years ago.

Durand works for ABC news in London as a royal commentator while Scobie is also a contributor to Good Morning America.

It’s been reported that the pair interviewed Harry and Meghan for the book but they have denied it and said everything in the book has at least two sources but they are not the couple.

Scobie, who has been an outspoken

‘We actually hear what’s going on’

supporter of the Duke and Duchess and followed the younger members of the Royal Family for more than eight years, said: “It’s not all from Harry and Meghan’s perspective, but I do think that for the first time we do actually get to hear what’s been going on in their minds.

“The book doesn’t claim to have any interviews with Harry and Meghan.”

He also denied there being any off-the-record discussions with the couple for the book, adding: “I think that you can tell from the reporting, my time around the couple is enough for me to know my subjects.”

Scobie believes bitter royal courtiers have been behind attempts to discredit his book before its release.

He said: “I’ve been in this game long enough to know who some of these people are. Does it surprise me? No. Does it disappoint me? A little.”
