Conor Mcgregor held on sex assault claims
CONOR Mcgregor has been arrested for an alleged attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure in a bar on Corsica.
The retired mixed martial arts fighter and boxer was taken into police custody following the incident in Calvi, on the north-west coast.
The prosecutor’s office said in a statement: “Following a complaint filed on September 10 denouncing acts that could be described as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, Conor Mcgregor was the subject of a hearing by the police.”
A spokesman for the Irishman said he “vigorously denies any accusations of misconduct. He has been interviewed and released.”
Mcgregor, 32, whose nickname is Notorious, has been sailing around the Mediterranean on his yacht with fiancee Dee Devlin, 33, mother of his two children. He had been on Corsica for several weeks and shared social media posts of the family on holiday. On Friday he told how anti-doping officials had arrived at his yacht, and said: “I’ve retired, guys! But go on then, I’ll allow them to test me.
“It’s all natural here, baby! 180km across the Mediterranean Sea tomorrow! LET’S GO!!”
The former two-weight Ultimate Fighting Championship champion had been due to take part in the 180km “water bike” charity event for the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation yesterday but he was replaced at the start.
Mcgregor, an icon in the UFC sport, is no stranger to controversy.
In 2018 he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after attacking a bus filled with UFC fighters in New York. And in 2019 he was convicted of assault after attacking an older man in a bar in Dublin.
