The new series of the BBC One show is back on our screens next month, but the first of two special programmes last night allowed its millions of fans to enjoy some of its best moments.

Next Saturday, the second special will showcase the best moments from annual trips to Blackpool Ballroom.

Amy, who was the runner-up in last year’s Strictly with presenter Karim Zeroual, said: “I think Strictly is incredibly important for people this year.

“Right now, the nation needs to be taken away from the doom and gloom and Covid-19, and be taken on that journey of Strictly Come Dancing.

“It’s not just for little boys and girls that want to dance, it’s for the entire family. It’s the build-up to Christmas, it’s the sparkle, it’s the glamour, it’s the glitter.

“And there’s also that rollercoaster journey for the celebrities, too.”

The 30-year-old from Wales is engaged to fellow dancer, Ben Jones, 29, who is also her professional partner when not on the TV show.

“I’m so privileged to wake up every morning and do what I love.

“I love every aspect of it.” Strictly: Best Of Blackpool, BBC One, Saturday, 8.15pm
