HAVERTZ WILL FUR FLYING ON

-

ANYTHING but a donkey on the football field, Kai Havertz just cannot get enough of the furry creatures off it. Chelsea’s new German winger, who has lightning pace and dazzling skills, is pure grace with the ball at his feet.

But if he’s way out of the ordinary when flying along the flanks, Havertz is also pretty unusual when it comes to his passions and pastimes away from the beautiful game.

After all, it is hard to think of many superstar talents declaring a deep love for donkeys, amid a wider interest in animal welfare on our planet.

Havertz, 21, a £72million summer buy from Bayer Leverkusen, said: “My family and I support things like animals. This is a very important thing for me.

“I try my best to help people to help animals. In the future it will be an even bigger thing for me. “From my first years as a kid, my favourite animal was always the donkey.

“It was a dream for me some day to have one.

“I am very lucky and now is a good opportunity to help save donkeys.

“Of course football is one of the most important things in my life. “But to be honest, there are many more important things in life than football.

“And animals are very important for the world. I want them to have a better life.”

Premier League defenders will be hoping he shows them similar consideration during his debut campaign on English shores.

But despite his belief that football is not a life-or-death matter, Havertz is out to put Premier League champions Liverpool to the sword this
