From yoga teacher to boss as Doria takes charge of care firm
THE Duchess of Sussex’s mother Doria Ragland has become the boss of an OAP care firm in a deal arranged by Meghan’s Hollywood lawyers.
Doria, formerly a yoga teacher, has become the head of a corporation called Loving Kindness, which identifies itself as a “senior care management” provider.
The deal was handled by Meghan’s attorney Rick Genow, who represents a string of movie stars from his Beverly Hills office.
Meghan’s mother controls all three major titles in the business – chief executive officer, company secretary and chief operating officer. Her name now appears on official documents.
Doria, 64, has previously worked as a TV makeup artist and a social worker at a mental health clinic.
She also ran an antiques business in California.
The term “loving kindness” is associated with Buddhism, an inspiration for both Meghan and Doria.
A website apparently linked to the business does not mention Doria’s involvement in the firm but says it provides “a holistic approach to senior care management”. Doria’s business appears to be the California branch of a larger care company.
The website tells how it was set up to provide care in elderly clients’ homes to ensure their quality of life does not suffer because of old age.
Loving Kindness was originally listed as an entertainment company and only changed to a care giver in April, while Meghan and Prince Harry were moving to Beverly Hills.
At the same time they were planning their approach to TV executives in the US, which resulted in a £117million contract with Netflix.
Doria’s company was registered in Delaware, noted for the secrecy it offers to companies and their records.
One US business expert said: “It’s not the usual sort of deal for someone like Rick Genow to get involved in.
“When you are as highprofile as Meghan and her family it’s understandable why they would keep things as low-profile as possible.”
It was previously believed Doria had continued to teach yoga classes until earlier this year. She introduced her daughter to yoga when she was just seven.
Meghan once said: “Yoga is my thing. I was very resistant as a kid, but she said, ‘You will find your practice, just give it time.’ In college I started doing it more regularly.”
Meghan’s attorney Rick is seen as one of America’s sharpest entertainment lawyers.
Harvard-educated, Genow is also based in Beverly Hills and is a founding partner of Hollywood powerhouse law firm
Stone, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder and Christopher.
He has represented Sir Ben Kingsley and has also worked closely with Paramount Pictures.
