JOSE THE BEST BAR FERGIE SAYS BRUCE

- By Simon Bird

JOSE MOURINHO is the greatest boss of the current generation and only Sir Alex Ferguson can top him in the modern era – according to Steve Bruce. The Newcastle coach clashes with Mourinho this afternoon convinced the

Portuguese can guide Tottenham to a trophy – after the “mouthwatering” signing of Gareth Bale.

Bruce (left) rates his former Manchester United boss and managerial mentor Sir Alex as the best ever but says Mourinho, 57, is still assembling a career that stands alongside anyone currently working.

He has dipped into Spurs’ fly-on-the-wall Amazon documentary to see how Mourinho works and found it “amusing and fascinating”.

Mourinho (right) has won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and four league cups during two spells at Chelsea and one at United, and his remit at Spurs is to deliver a first trophy since 2008.

He has also delivered league titles at Porto, Real Madrid and Inter as well as five European trophies.

Bruce said: “It gives me all the encouragement I need that people can criticise Jose Mourinho.

“He’s going to go down in folklore for what he’s already achieved and won.

“He’s probably only bettered by Sir Alex. “The fact he can get criticised is ridiculous because he is certainly one of the best managers of the last decade or two. “You can only take your hat off to him and say, ‘Well done’. “Look at what he’s won and achieved – it’s quite staggering where he’s come from and how he’s done it.”
