DO YOU KNOW THE NATION’S BIGGEST FOOTBALL FAN? Hamilton’s a born winner on four wheels or two insists Crutchlow

- By Alex Wood

BRITISH Motogp ace Cal Crutchlow reckons Lewis Hamilton would always have been a track superstar – whether on four wheels or two. The F1 phenomenon will bag another championship if he does not lose more than seven points to Valtteri Bottas in Turkey next weekend.

If all goes to plan, Hamilton will equal Michael Schumacher’s tally of seven titles. He has already passed the German’s win record and looks on course to become the most successful racing driver of all time.

But Crutchlow (above), the only British rider in Motogp, reckons Hamilton could have also flourished on two wheels. He said: “If Lewis decided when he was young to ride a motorcycle, I believe he’d be at the top of our sport as well. He’s special on a bike, there’s no doubt about that.

“I rode with him in the USA a few years ago and he’s one of those guys who is talented at everything. It was only his third time riding on a track and he was naturally very fast.

“I’ve got 25 years racing on him, but the speed he was going was impressive. It was great to see and he’s always wanted to learn about bikes. If he does retire from F1 now, maybe we could do something. Let’s see if we can both race in Motogp!”

Crutchlow’s Motogp campaign was derailed in September after he missed he two Misano rounds following complications from arm pump surgery. The 35-year-old is also without a seat for next season as his five-year association with LCR Honda comes to an end.

However, a move to Aprilia remains a possibility if Andrea Iannone’s appeal against an 18-month drugs suspension is unsuccessful.

Crutchlow insists he’s still hungry for success despite his advancing years.

“I’ll be giving it my all in the last three races,” he added.
