WIGAN HASTINGS BATTLE DRAGS ON

- Julie Stott

JACKSON HASTINGS will tell League Leaders Shield winners Wigan tomorrow whether he is going to stay.

The Warriors, who have earned a week off after finishing top, are keen to keep the reigning Man of Steel.

But Hastings (below) says he needs to speak to his family back in Australia before coming to a decision.

He said: “I think I know what I want to do and know what my heart is telling me. Hopefully by the start of next week I will come to a decision.”

The Great Britain star, 24, left the NRL under a cloud midway through the 2018 season after a bust-up at Manly.

Salford stepped in and the playmaker has been a sensation ever since, helping the Red Devils to a shock Grand Final appearance last year before heading to the Warriors.

Hastings has made no secret of his desire to succeed at a second attempt in the NRL but Wigan coach Adrian Lam hopes to keep him.

Lam, whose own contract future is uncertain, said: “We announced Bevan French is staying this week and we’re looking at getting Jackson over the line and then I will be the last one. I am okay with that.” Elsewhere, Rob Lui, 30, has warned Leeds’ play-off opponents Catalans to beware of the Sean Long effect.

The former Great Britain half-back has answered an emergency call from Leeds after Richard Agar and two other coaches went into Covid-related isolation.

And stand-off Lui said: “Me and Galey (scrum-half Luke Gale) have been on him straight away getting tips. He’s been very good for us.”
