ALL SMILES: Jack Yeandle’s Exeter are flying high

EXETER CHIEFS are dreaming of repeating last season’s magical double glory after starting their domestic campaign with a bang and are now gearing up for another European crusade. Captain Jack Yeandle is thrilled by the club’s flying start in the Premiership, which has left the impressive Devon men sitting merrily on high at the summit with maximum points.

Three crushing bonus wins have seen the Sandy Park brigade amass an impressive 108 points, while conceding just 19 in the process. So it is no wonder

Rob Baxter’s side are setting such lofty targets once more as they prepare for Champions Cup battle against Glasgow Warriors today.

It’s just 57 days since Chiefs beat Racing to be crowned European champions for the first time and hooker Yeandle said: “It was a decent feeling to do something so special that few clubs have done before.

“It’s certainly something the club would like to replicate. But it’s going to be very tough again because people will know what we are now capable of doing on the field – and there are so many other talented teams desperate to win things. But if you can get off to a good start in both domestic and European competitions, it’s going to make it easier come the end of it.

“Glasgow Warriors were in our group last year so we are well aware of the threats they bring, with so many internationals in their team.

“There are still some areas we need to improve. We are not ticking as we would like. You need to go hard at this level or you get found out.

“We love challenges. The aim was to be the best in England and then the best in Europe.

“We’ve achieved that but now we have to be able to continue raising the bar and making sure we maintain consistently high performances if we want to stay at the top.”
