ROVERS SAVED BY HARVEY’S HEROICS

Blackburn 1 Stoke 1

- By John Richardson

AN unlikely assist by Harvey Elliott allowed sub John Buckley (below) to stab in from close range 15 minutes from time to rescue Rovers.

Elliott, on loan from Liverpool, went crashing over the perimeter advertising hoarding but his acrobatics paid off as he homed in on a wayward ball.

And as Stoke unravelled after being in control thanks to a Nick Powell goal,

Tony Mowbray’s side could have won it. But a fine save from Joe Bursik prevented Ben Brereton grabbing all three points.

The Potters had James Chester sent off for bringing down Adam Armstrong who was racing clear.

Stoke boss Michael O’neill said: “In the end we had to dig deep to hang on but we showed good character.”
