Osborn’s not sleepwalking to relegation

- By Neil Mcleman

BEN OSBORN has revealed he is sleeping better since Sheffield United ended their nightmare start to the season with a first league win.

The midfielder insists the Blades can still stay up and their potential great escape has to start by catching West Brom.

Chris Wilder’s bottom club face Tottenham today on the back of the much-needed victory over Newcastle and a cup win at Bristol Rovers.

Osborn, 26, said: “It was pure relief. The training ground this week has been a bit of a brighter place.

“I have slept a bit better this week, I am not going to lie.

“I think you have to try and get away from it as a player and it has been a lot easier this week for sure.

“It is definitely a weight off our shoulders.

“I don’t think I will ever take a win for granted again.”

However, West Brom’s 3-2 victory at Wolves yesterday opened up a six-point gap between the bottom two.

And after Jose Mourinho’s team visit Bramall Lane today, the Blades face two trips to Manchester at the end of the month, meeting United first and then City.

“We need, first and foremost, to put a run together,” added Osborn, who has been deployed at wing-back.

“I think it is quite amazing that we are not completely out of it already. That is how the Premier League has been.

“There is still hope definitely. We can’t be looking too far ahead at the moment.

“We have one eye on the team above us and I think that is the only way to look at it at the moment.”

Wilder believes his three big summer signings – Aaron Ramsdale, Rhian Brewster and Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu – will benefit from the improved team displays.

“It has been difficult for them as young players coming into the side,” the Blades boss said.

“I wouldn’t back against these three boys having decent careers.”
