Hojbjerg’s up with Kane and Son as Mourinh
Name here
PIERRE-EMILE HOJBJERG is now one of Jose Mourinho’s most important players, says Tottenham legend Micky Hazard.
Spurs’ title charge has faltered in recent weeks but midfield enforcer Hojbjerg (left), 25, has continued his rich vein of form.
The £13million summer signing from Southampton bagged his first goal for the club with a stunning strike in Thursday’s 3-1 defeat by Liverpool and Hazard reckons the
Dane is now one of the first names on the Special One’s team sheet.
He said of Hojbjerg: “In the first game of the season against Everton I thought Spurs had made a big mistake. He looked unsure and uncertain but he’s been a revelation since. Hojbjerg’s reading of the game, positional play and quality on the ball has been exceptional. After Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, you’d put him up there as player of the season.”
Mourinho will be without Kane for the next few weeks after the striker suffered injuries to both ankles against Liverpool.
Hazard hailed Kane, saying: “He is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world. He’s good in the air, can use both feet and runs with the ball at pace.
“But he’s now added something else this season. In some games
he’s been playing as a defender, midfielder and striker. His passing and vision reminds me of Glenn Hoddle and despite that extra work he’s still got plenty of goals.”
Hojbjerg’s teammate Steven Bergwijn says he is being pushed to his limits in Spurs’ glory quest.
Twelve months after arriving from PSV Eindhoven and scoring on his debut against Manchester
City, winger Bergwijn, 23, said: “It’s been demanding, 100 per cent. I don’t think I’ve played this many games throughout my career. I like it.
“Everything has changed for me since I joined
Spurs – the intensity of the games, the number of them and the travelling.
“I cannot say I’m not tired but it’s the job and playing the games helps.”
