LA FILLE MAL GARDÉE

-

PURE joy is the only way to describe this Royal Ballet treat. The weather’s miserable and we’re all wearily worn down but I promise Frederick

Ashton’s sunny tale of country folk will put a grin on your face and a glow in your heart.

Natalia Osipova and Steven Mcrae shine as young lovers Lise and Colas, their sublime footwork and exuberant characterisations matching the heavenly choreography. There are dancing chickens, maypoles and that iconic clog dance by the Widow Simone (a scene-stealingly sensational Philip Mosley).

An utter delight from start to finish.

Irish actress Amy, 41, has appeared in Cold Feet, Silent Witness and Flack but is currently playing Joy in Finding Joy

What was your first TV memory?

My Dad and brothers fighting for the remote because they were obsessed with Going Live! and Gordon the Gopher. I’m not sure why they had to fight for the remote because we all wanted to watch it. After that, for me it was Neighbours. I pulled a sickie from school the day Charlene married Scott. I was her biggest fan.

What was your first TV appearance?

My first was on Irish TV in a series called On Home Ground. It was about a Gaelic Athletic Association club in a fictional town. It had a great mix of young actors and experienced ones. It made me realise I could be an actress.

Who was your first TV crush?

Richard Dean Anderson as Macgyver. My dad and brothers watched it for the fights and kidnappings, I watched it for him. Then it was Jason Priestley in Beverly Hills, 90210.

What is your favourite current show?

The Morning Show on Apple TV, with Jennifer Aniston, who is brilliant in it. I’m halfway through the first series and loving it.

Which TV show would you take to a desert island?

It’d have to be a comedy, it couldn’t be anything dark involving crime. Maybe Sex And The City, although I have a real love/hate relationship with Carrie. She’s so frustrating. Probably Friends.

What TV show would you like to put out of its misery?

At the moment the news. I can’t watch it. But I don’t think I could axe a show. I would never rain on anybody’s parade.

Guiltiest TV pleasure?

I’m partial to a bit of reality TV, like Selling Sunset and Tiger King, just for the conversations they generate. But generally I prefer drama and comedy for pure escapism.

What are you up to at the moment?

I play Joy on Finding Joy. I watched it when it went out in Ireland and now I’m watching it again. It’s still as scary the second time around.

● Both series of Finding Joy are available now on Acorn TV
