Only we can stand up to the SNP comedy club jokers

- By Douglas Ross LEADER, SCOTTISH CONSERVATIVE PARTY

TOMORROW, the House of Commons will debate a petition that has been supported by more than 100,000 people and is entitled: “Do not give consent for another Scottish Independence Referendum.”

This view is shared, not just by those who signed the petition, but by so many people all over Scotland.

They want the focus to be on our recovery from Covid-19 and rebuilding from this pandemic, not another damaging and divisive referendum.

While the debate will be held in a committee room tomorrow, similar discussions took place in the main chamber last week when the SNP used their debating time to talk about their obsession of separation. Tommy Sheppard is a Scottish nationalist who is perhaps better known for his comedy clubs.

His political track record, however, is less rib-tickling. For Sheppard is just a typical SNP politician with a tired old routine.

Lastwednesday, he led the

SNP’S opposition day debate in the Commons.

He could have picked any subject whatsoever. Perhaps the pandemic’s devastating death toll? Or how Scotland will recover and rebuild?

But, of course, he did not. For the SNP there is only ever one topic worthy of debate.

After having to sit through the entirety of Sheppard’s performance, I can well understand why he keeps off-stage at his clubs.

Only the Scottish Conservatives have the strength and resolve to stand up to Sheppard and the rest of his SNP jokers.
