Heskey’s warning to Foxes’ young stars

- REPORTING Tom Hopkinson

RENDAN RODGERS insists he won’t be chucking teacups around the place in his bid to get Leicester back on track.

The Foxes face Crystal Palace today with Rodgers bidding to fix the crisis of confidence hanging over a side with just one in their last six games.

He’s hugely disappointed with the dip in form but says this is no time for tempers to get frayed.

The Irishman is having to make too many half-time rally talks for his liking just because his side have got off to a slow start.

But he’s trying to keep things

calm and revealed he’s not prone to flying off the handle with his players.

Rodgers said: “No, no. I believe at times you have to change the tone. I’m not throwing cups and smashing things and all that. But the players understand my feelings.

“It’s my responsibility to fix it. Too many times I’m having to make an impact at half-time to make the team come out more aggressively so it’s 100 per cent an area we need to improve.”

Rodgers added: “I’ve got perspective on where we’ve been and where we’ve got to. So I know as a coach the sun has shone on us over this past two-and-a-half years and very brightly.

“But sometimes it moves… and you’ve got to move with it and we need to get moving again.

“The Palace game is an ideal opportunity for us to try and get our confidence back.there’s no doubt results can sometimes lessen the confidence level.

“But we raised the expectation level of the club, of the team, and we want to move with that.”

EMILE HESKEY has told Leicester’s young stars they must learn to stay switched on for 90-plus minutes in every game now they’re a target to be shot at.

The Foxes have established themselves as one of the top flight’s teams to beat but so far they have managed just two wins and a draw in six league outings.

And the club’s former striker Heskey, who has been working with other raw young talents over the summer as a Mcdonald’s Fun Football ambassador, said: “When you’re looking at everything that is going right for Leicester, people are getting jealous.

“But we have to do something to change the mentality. it’s about switching on in every second of the game.

“It’s slowly but surely coming, but the senior players have to drive that and the young players have to want it as well.”
