Scott rising to the challenge of City positional switch

- By Adam Millington

MANCHESTER CITY’S Jill Scott admits that Chelsea will be the favourites when the two meet in the semifinals of the Women’s FA Cup today.

But she insists the holders are still more than capable of competing despite being hit by an injury crisis this year that has seen them slip to ninth in the WSL table, 11 points adrift of the top spot.

They saw an improvement when they came from behind to draw in the Manchester derby and will be hoping to carry that form into the cup clash in Manchester.

“We’re under no illusion that Chelsea are massively going to be favourites going into Sunday because of the start of the

season we’ve had,” she said. “People speak about the players that are missing quite a bit – but if you look at the team that will be going into Sunday and the bench as well, we still have a very good team that is more than capable of competing.”

The lack of players has left boss Gareth Taylor struggling to fill positions, leaving veteran Scott to have to deputise in an unnatural centre-back role.

She added: “If I’m being honest, it has been a challenge.

“I’m used to playing in attacking midfield so you’re looking at the game from a completely different angle.

“But I think it’s been good for me. I even joked at one point that I’d play anywhere so I think that joke came true.”

Away from football, the England stalwart has recently opened a coffee shop in Manchester and has enjoyed being able to spend time on her business to escape from the stress of the game.

“I just love to be busy,” said Scott, 34. “I’m not one of these people that will sit and just chill, I always like to be doing something.”
