Tammy wants to keep things so Kane & simple

Wales ace just eyes major prize

- By Steve Bates

TAMMY ABRAHAM has vowed to help Harry Kane become England’s all-time greatest goalscorer – even though he’s after his job.

Tottenham and England star Kane is just five goals away from overtaking Wayne Rooney as Three Lions top scorer.

But while Roma star Abraham is happy to tee up the Spurs golf fanatic against Germany in Munich on Tuesday, ultimately, he wants Kane’s shirt.

“I think for every player that’s the right mentality – being positive,” Abraham said.

“We are all buzzing for Harry, we want him to smash the record and we’re always here to support him.

“Whenever I’m given a chance if I’m on a pitch with him, I’ll try to help him get to his targets.

“But for me, it’s all about getting an opportunity, grabbing it with two hands and showing what you’re made of.

“I went from a position (at Chelsea) where I was starting and playing games to a position where I was second or third choice.

“At the end of the day, we won the Champions League but I wasn’t the one to score. I wasn’t even on the pitch.

“You learn that sometimes you have to accept these moments and that it’s not always going to be you.

“It’s going to be someone else from your team, so it’s about supporting and helping as much as possible.

“For me, whoever scores at the World Cup I’ll be buzzing.

“If it’s not me and it’s Harry Kane, I’m celebrating the same, like it is me.

“That’s the kind of team we have here.

“Everyone’s happy for each other and wants everyone to be successful.”

Abraham is certainly doing that under

Jose Mourinho (both pictured below) after a goal-filled debut Serie A season following his £34million move from Stamford Bridge last summer.

It was a brave move by the forward, 24, who had been at Chelsea since he was seven.

But it’s already paid off – and Abraham really is living la dolce vita after finishing the season with 27 goals and a winner’s medal, with Mourinho’s stars beating Feyenoord in the Conference League final.

“Rome has been great. On and off the pitch, life’s been good,” he added.

“This was my first time in Rome.

“I’d never even been there on holiday before but it has been amazing learning about the history, culture and different style of living.

“I lived in London my whole life, so it’s nice to embrace something different – even learning Italian!”

GARETH BALE doesn’t care ifwales become the most hated football team on the planet this evening – because it will mean they have qualified for theworld Cup finals for the first time in 64 years.

Neutral supporters all over the planet will be rooting for Ukraine to win, given the horrors inflicted upon their nation since Russia’s invasion in February.

But from the first whistle to the last, Bale insists he and his fellow Dragons will turn off their emotions and focus solely on making their own dreams and those of their compatriots come true in Cardiff City’s 33,000-plus stadium.

He said: “We’ll be the most popular team in the stadium, that’s the main thing.

“We understand the awful things going on in Ukraine. Our hearts go out to the kids, families and people of Ukraine.we’ve all felt awful during this time and not been able to do too much.

“But come kick-off, it’s a game of football.we want to win.”

Asked if he will feel the need to apologise to Ukraine’s players if Wales do win, Bale added: “As horrible as it sounds, no, as it is a game of football and a competition that we want to get to as well.

“Everyone in the world feels for Ukraine. It is sport that unites everybody.we understand what it will do for Ukraine but we want to get to theworld Cup.

“That is not coming from a horrible place, it is coming from our country and hearts as we want to deliver for our own fans.”

While the blinkers will be on for Bale during the game, he admits he has struggled to come to terms with what has been happening in recent months in a city and country that provided the stage for one of the best moments of his career.

It was in Kyiv in 2018 when he scored his wonder goal for Real Madrid against Liverpool in the Champions League final, which

Los Blancos won 3-1.

Bale said: “It’s surreal knowing you’ve been to Kyiv itself and

Ukraine. Just seeing the pictures and reading about what’s going on is heartbreaking. Nobody wants a war to happen, we want it to stop as soon as possible.

“There are so many families and kids stuck there and we can’t do anything. It’s a horrible situation. It’s still difficult to talk about now because it’s still going on.

“But my memories of that night are pretty obvious – winning the Champions League there, a great night and I scored an OK goal,” he added, smiling.

“It was a great night. But it’s not nice when you think what’s going on in that country and city. It is not nice to think about.”

That was one of many big games Bale has played in, but this will be right up there among the most important of his career.

He added: “Wales have played in oneworld Cup and we want to play on the biggest stage. It’s a massive game which we’re desperate to win to achieve our goal.”

There has been speculation that if Wales lose, today’s game could be Bale’s last after he left Real.

But asked if he had many offers for next season, he laughed and said playfully: “I’ve got loads.”
