Boy’s life saved ...by snoring!

- By Lucy Laing

A SCHOOLBOY has made a miracle recovery after his snoring turned out to be a deadly cancer.

Lenny Hales, 12, had started snoring every night which worried his parents so much that they took him to the GP. They had already noticed two lumps on his neck.

Initially doctors thought he just had inflamed glands from a virus, which was causing the snoring. But weeks later, tests showed he had Non-hodgkin Lymphoma.

Now, after three and a half gruelling years, Lenny has finally beaten the disease.

His dad Daren, 55, said Lenny had never snored at night before March 2018.

Mr Hales, who lives with wife Jill 45, in Benfleet, Essex, said: “It was so loud Jill and I were shocked.”

A few weeks later Lenny became very lethargic and was falling asleep at school.

Mr Hales said: “Lenny walked into the kitchen one morning and we noticed that he had a lump on both sides of his neck.”

The couple had taken him to the GP previously who thought he had a virus and his glands were inflamed. So they took him back again. This time he was taken straight

to hospital where the news was broken that he had Non-hodgkin Lymphoma.

Lenny began intensive chemotherapy at Great Ormond Street Hospital, in London. Doctors there also discovered a mass on his chest, which had been causing the snoring, and growths in his kidneys.

Lenny finally rang the end-of-treatment bell last August. He also got to be a mascot for his football team, West Ham, and was able to walk out on to the pitch with them.

Mr Hayes said: “It was a very emotional moment for us all to see him ring the bell. He had been so strong throughout it all and we couldn’t be prouder of him.”
