- GARRY BUSHELL

Leeds-born Jeff, 75 , is the singer and bass-player with soft rock band Christie best known for 70s hits Yellow River and San Bernardino.

What was your first TV memory?

I remember mum and dad getting our first set and seeing things like The Woodentops and Amos ‘n’ Andy with great excitement. Also a Western called Hank The Cowboy with a bandit called Mexican Pete and a Red Indian called Chief Dirty Face... not very PC.

Who was your first TV crush?

After Jayne Mansfield it was a Yorkshire TV presenter called Liz Fox – whom I later went out with for quite a while.

What was your first TV appearance?

It was a YTV documentary made by Austin Mitchell, later a Labour MP, called Death Of A Pop Group about my earlier band The Outer Limits. Christie played Yellow River on Top Of The Pops in 1970, then Mike & Bernie Winters’ show,

The Basil Brush Show and many more.

What is your favourite current show?

I love Borgen, the Danish political thriller. I like a bit of Scandi noir and also some of the Walter Presents shows on More4.

Which TV show would you take to a desert island?

The Phil Silvers Show – 143 episodes of Sgt Bilko to keep me laughing all the way to the nearest palm tree!

What TV show would you like to put out of its misery?

Naked Attraction! Who the hell wants to see that? It’s diabolical.

Guiltiest TV pleasure?

I love good documentaries. I wish I had time to watch all the David Attenborough ones. Maybe I’d take them to the desert island too.

What are you up to at the moment?

I’ve got a new album out this autumn and a new single out next weekend. I also got involved with a Ukrainian version of Yellow River.

I Guess I Am The Only One by Lorenzo Gabanizza and Jeff Christie is released on July 10.
