It’s strawberries and scream day for Cam

- By Tom Hopkinson

CAMERON NORRIE wants Wimbledon fans to stock up on strawberries and cream and then roar him on to victory on an historic day at the All England Club.

Today heralds the full-time introduction of middle Sunday tennis at SW19. In previous years it has been a rest day – unless rain delays caused it to be used.

The British No.1 is delighted to be marking it with his first experience of the second week but wants to be here on the second Sunday, men’s final day, too.

He beat Steve Johnson of the USA on Friday to set up a fourthround clash with another American, Tommy

Paul (right) today. The match is second up on No.1 Court.

Norrie said: “It’s a great day to be a tennis fan. Another day on the weekend when people are not working to come and watch some tennis, get some strawberries and cream and enjoy themselves.

“It’s pretty cool playing on the Sunday but it changes nothing for me, I’ll treat it like another match.

“There’s a long way to go, but obviously I’d like to go and win it all – that’s the goal.

“Any tournament I enter I try to win.

I’m ninth seed, so I definitely have a shot, but making the second week was a nice box to tick.”

Norrie’s run to the fourth round has in part been pedalpowered, with eagleeyed fans able to spot him cycling in to practice on rest days.

He added: “I’m not a proper cyclist but I have a little singlespeed bike that makes it tough with the hills.

“It’s nice to beat the traffic and it’s a good warm-up.

“My dad is big in to cycling, so I always used to watch the

Tour De France with him, but I’m not going out doing 50km cycles or anything – I’m just doing it to get around.

“It takes around 10 minutes to get here on my bike and 15 or 20 in the car!”
