Fern: Love is fine but I won’t live with anyone

- By Julia Kuttner

CELEBRITY Big Brother finalist Fern Britton says she is open to finding romance with someone – as long as they are happy not to live with her.

The 66-year-old presenter and author, who was married to TV chef Phil Vickery for 20 years before their shock split in 2020, said she would be open to a new relationship if someone “incredible” came along.

After leaving the Celebrity Big Brother house, she said: “Do you know what, I’m not looking.

“However, never say never, if someone incredible came along who could put up with me, I’d say ‘yes’.

“I don’t want to live with anyone, I don’t want to get married again. If someone special came in it would be the icing on the cake really.

“I’m a very independent person and the older I get, the more I realise I like freedom.

“I don’t want to have to be cooking and cleaning and taking care of anybody. Separate houses would do me nicely,” she said.

The former This Morning presenter said she was shocked to hear the news about the Princess ofwales in the early hours of yesterday, after the final night of the reality show on Friday.

Fern said that the world will be praying for Kate to make a full recovery, and in sending her heartfelt wishes to the mother-of-three she said: “I only heard at three o’clock this morning. I’d just got into bed and I thought I’ll look at the news, and I saw the video of Kate herself speaking about this terrible diagnosis.

“Your heart just goes out to her, with three small children and the King not well, no wonder William had to disappear from that memorial service for the King of Greece, it suddenly all falls into place.

“I can only say that I wish her well, the whole world wants her to get better.

“She’s only 42, it would be a tragedy for the Prince ofwales to have a young, gorgeous wife so obviously unwell, but if the world can be behind her and pray for her, she should be better by tomorrow.

“The strength of feeling for her, she’s a great woman and I’m very sorry she’s going through that.”

The first series of the revamped Celebrity Big Brother on ITV was won by reality TV star David Potts, 30, from Ibiza Weekender, with Strictly professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin, 26, the runner-up.
