Blazing hot Bronte bids to be role model for girls

- By David Stephenson TV EDITOR Gladiators – The Grand Final is on BBC One on Saturday at 5.50pm.

LET battle commence! Firefighter Bronte Jones is more than “ready” for the Gladiators final next weekend – as she hopes to inspire young girls to take on any challenge.

The 23-year-old Sheffield native has been enjoying chatting to children who have seen her on the smash-hit reboot of the show.

She said: “I think the biggest part out of this whole journey is inspiring younger generations.

“I’ve been on fire calls recently and kids have recognised me off the show and been so excited to see me.

“Or when we’ve been doing community work in schools, seeing the kids’ faces light up when I walk in, it’s been so magical and so humbling to think that even if I just inspire one person to go on and do something amazing, then it’s made everything I do worthwhile.”

Last night BBC One viewers saw Bronte win her semi-final in her home city. She now faces personal trainer Marie-louise Nicholson, 28, in the final, pictured with her above – with the two male contestants being admin officer Wesley Male, top left, and Army officer Finlay Anderson, above right.

The series, hosted by Bradley

Walsh and his son Barney in Sheffield Arena, sees members of the public take on superstrong “gladiators” in wrestling games and on assault courses. It has been a huge success – drawing in nearly nine million viewers in its first week alone.

Bronte said: “Winning would mean the world to me knowing I made all of my friends and family proud because they’ve been such amazing support. I’d love to be able to bring it home for a home crowd of Sheffield.”

Marie-louise said: “It’s been a journey of being inspired by TV, watching an old show that touched so many hearts in the 1990s come to life again. I’m lucky to be part of it.”
