Hotel move for alleged abuser
A MAN wanted to face child sex abuse allegations in Latvia, who was moved from a home by a primary school after the Sunday Express raised concerns, is now in a hotel that can be booked by families with children.
Verners Ricards Miklavs, 20, has been put in a hotel, with taxpayers footing the bill through Northamptonshire Police.
He was earlier living on conditional bail in the Kettering area next to a school.
He had been bailed by a judge at Westminster Magistrates’ Court while he fights extradition to Latvia where he is alleged to have seriously sexually assaulted a seven-year-old girl and allegedly raped a second girl, aged 10. Miklavs denies all allegations. Ketteringtory MP Phillip Hollobone got police to take action to remove him, after we raised the scandal.
The hotel cannot be named by order of the court, meaning any families who booked would have no idea he was living there.
The hotel owner declined to comment.
The Sunday Express is aware of at least six more cases where foreign alleged sex offenders have been bailed by the court while they fight extradition.
Mr Hollobone said: “I’ve written to the Courts Minister to say that bailing suspected sex offenders to a hotel, where families and children can stay, is inappropriate.”
A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “The accommodation costs were met by the force. We continue to work with the National Crime Agency, the CPS and council colleagues to ensure appropriate accommodation for this individual, and enable suitable monitoring to minimise any risk to the public.”
