Our terror hero raises thousands

- By Matt Gibson

LONDON Bridge hero Geoff Ho has raised thousand of pounds for charity after tackling terrorists who murdered eight people.

Friends of Geoff, City Editor of the Sunday Express, organised a GoFundMe site after he was injured in the attack.

He stepped in to fend off the terrorists as they tried to force their way into a pub, explaining: “I will defend my friends whatever the cost.”

Geoff held them at bay but was slashed across the throat. He spent more than a week in hospital.

He said: “All I tried to do was put myself between them and my friends and buy them some time.

“I would do it again in an instant.

“All I saw in the attackers’ eyes was rage. They were so angry. They were animals to be perfectly honest. They were just hacking everything, they just really wanted to hurt as many people as possible. They didn’t care about life.”

He said that it was only as he staggered outside after the attack he realised how serious things were.

He said: “At one moment I thought I needed to sit and close my eyes. My friend said just keep talking. I just wanted to close my eyes.

“If they were any better at knife combat the terrorists would have killed me outright – but I realised I had a chance of surviving.

“I will never forget seeing the video of myself walking over the bridge, bleeding. I wish my parents had never seen that.”

He added: “I don’t think of myself as a hero I just wanted to do the right thing and protect my friends. I think I did that.”

His friend Azeem Rasool, who set up the fundraising page, said: “Geoff Ho is a true hero who during the London attack fought with the attackers when they tried to harm innocent people. He was injured due to his bravery but is recovering. He is a courageous individual who did not fail anyone and his actions probably saved more people from getting injured.”

The appeal has raised more than £7,300, which will be donated to the Red Cross and Air Ambulance Service.

Geoff was released from hospital last week. He said: “I’m stunned, humbled and grateful that so much has been raised for the Red Cross and the London Air Ambulance.”
