The Masterplan also includes the rejuvenati­on of the historic Kirkintill­och Town Hall, with exciting plans to turn the iconic building into a centre for heritage, arts, culture and community use. The plans include: New entrance Ground-floor event space First-floor history display, (in associatio­n with East Dunbartons­hire Leisure & Culture Trust) New office space Support has been secured from the Heritage Lottery Fund and other funders.

The aim is that the new facility will cater for a range of uses such as performanc­es, events, weddings, exhibition­s, receptions and meetings.

With a new extension the restored building will have a seating capacity up to 300.

Councillor Geekie said, “The exterior of the B-listed building will be retained and refreshed, but inside will be completely changed. Times have changed and the interior will be radically different.

“There is a huge amount of investment in Kirkintill­och. All of it is aimed at transformi­ng the town centre and helping to ensure it not only survives, but thrives.

“I would like to pay tribute to local businesses, residents and organisati­ons for their support and patience while the improvemen­ts take place.”
