Capital stuff from Cummings

-

A DOUBLE from Jason Cummings helped Hibernian maintain their perfect start to the Championship with a 2-0 win at St Mirren.

It was a match they dominated pretty much from start to finish and manager Neil Lennon believed his side should have won by more.

Cummings put Hibs ahead with a near-post finish after 21 minutes and the Edinburgh side were well worth their advantage.

The striker scored his second after a mix-up between goalkeeper Scott Gallacher and Jack Baird gave him the simplest of opportunities.

Hibs brought on new signings Andrew Shinnie and Brian Graham for the closing stages.

Lennon was impressed with Cummings’ contribution, at least in the first period: “I think he was a bit sloppy in the second half and looked a little bit tired.

“If they’d seen him in the first half, Real Madrid would have been on the phone but in the second it would have been more like Accrington Stanley!”

Dundee United recorded their first league win, a 3-0 victory over

Ayr United at Tannadice. United were awarded a penalty when Cammy Smith was fouled and although Fleming saved Nick van der Velden’s spot-kick, Simon Murray netted the loose ball.

Jamie Robson scored the second before half-time after good work from Willo Flood and van der Velden.

It was Flood who secured the points beyond all doubt with a thumping finish late on. Queen of the South kept up their solid start with a 2-0 win over Falkirk at Palmerston Park with returning striker Stephen Dobbie scoring both goals.

He broke the deadlock in 34 minutes with a superb first-time strike from just outside the area after a flowing move. Dobbie scored his second early in the second half with another stunning finish after a header from Lyndon Dykes had been blocked.

Morton and Dumbarton shared a 1-1 draw at Cappielow.

Sons took the lead after 28 minutes when Derek Gaston failed to deal with a Ryan Stevenson corner and the ball went into the net off his glove.

Substitute Kudus Oyunega equalised after 62 minutes from Michael Tidser’s cross.

He should have put the home side in front shortly afterwards but was careless with his finish.

There was a let-off for Dumbarton when Gallagher headed the ball against the outside of his own post.
