COMMONWEAL­TH super lightweigh­t champion Josh Taylor and Ohara Davies will finally meet in the ring in Glasgow after trading insults on social media for months. The undefeated pair will lock horns for Londoner Davies’ WBC Silver title at the Braehead Arena on July 8, with the fight to be broadcast on Channel 5.

GOLF

SPAIN’S Alvaro Quiros will take a commanding lead into the final round of the Rocco Forte Open in Sicily. On a day when strong gusting winds made scoring difficult, overnight leader Quiros was one of seven players to break par with a third round of 70. At 16-under par, Quiros was five shots clear of South Africa’s Zander Lombard.

HOCKEY

SCOTLAND’S women made a promising start to their build -up for the World League semifinal with a 3-1 win over champions Edinburgh University. Kaz Marshall, Sarah Jamieson and Fiona Burnet were on target for the national side.

Meanwhile, Scotland’s men’s Under-21 side are still unbeaten in the build-up for the European Junior Championsh­ips in St Petersburg after drawing 3-3 with Grove Menzieshil­l on Tayside.

MOTORSPORT

SILVERSTON­E’S hosting of the British Grand Prix past 2019 has been put in doubt due to the rising costs in Formula One. The Northampto­nshire circuit’s executive director Stuart Pringle has raised issues with the finance involved in hosting the race weekend and is unsure whether Silverston­e can continue after the current contract expires.

Pringle said: “I sincerely hope it won’t be the end of grand prix racing at Silverston­e but we’ve made clear to the Formula One management we can’t live with the present contract beyond 2019.”

SHINTY

KILMALLIE produced the shock result of the day, beating Kinlochshi­el 3-2 in the semi-final of the MacTavish Cup at ’Shiel’s Kirkton pitch. ’Shiel were odds on favourites to make it through to face Newtonmore in next month’s final but the underdogs quickly knocked them off their stride when Duncan Rodger opened the scoring in the fourth minute. The home side equalised in the 66th minute through Finlay MacRae but the expected surge failed to materialis­e.

Instead it was Kilmallie who struck when Michael Rodger scored seven minutes from time. Calum MacDougall hit their third three minutes later. MacRae hit a late counter but Kilmallie held on.

Newtonmore won the Badenoch derby, beating Kingussie 2-0 in a Premiershi­p match at the Eilan. Glen MacKintosh scored in each half as the champions got their title defence back on the rails.

They were further boosted after league leaders Kyles Athletic dropped their first point of the season when they were held 1-1 at home by Oban Camanachd.

Lochaber celebrated their first league win in seven matches as they came from 2-0 down to beat Glenurquha­rt 3-2 in Drumnadroc­hit, while Lovat beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 2-0.

Fort William are through to the second round of the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup with a 2-0 replay win over Oban Celtic.

TENNIS

NOVAK Djokovic eased into the final of the Internazio­nali BNL d’Italia after losing just one game against Dominic Thiem. The world No 2 beat Austrian Thiem 6-1, 6-0 and will play Alexander Zverev after the German beat John Isner 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 6-1, in Rome.
