McCall fury over pitch invaders

-

BRADFORD City manager Stuart McCall was furious that Millwall fans had been allowed to invade the pitch at Wembley after his side lost out on promotion to the Championship.

McCall, along with players, including Tony McMahon and Mark Marshall, was goaded by the pitch invaders at the final whistle after Steve Morison’s goal sealed Millwall’s return to the English second tier.

McCall said: “I have to say I’m very, very disappointed in the stewarding, to allow the fans across the halfway line to confront me and my players – because I was close to clocking a couple of them, that’s for sure. I think Wembley will have to look at that for next season.”

McCall was frustrated in defeat but said: “First and foremost, congratulations to Neil [Harris, Millwall manager], his staff and his players.

“I just feel numb at this moment, there’s nothing I can say to the players or the supporters.

“We knew we were two tight sides and the odd goal would do it. We’ll just have to lick our wounds and come back stronger next season.”

Morison himself was quick to condemn the fans, saying: “They are annoying me, they’ve ruined this for everyone”, but the veteran striker was relishing another crack at the Championship.

He said: “It’s brilliant, we’ll celebrate tonight. I’m sure the gaffer will do a great job in the summer, recruiting for next year, and we’ll have a great crack at the Championship.”

Strike partner Lee Gregory, whose header set up Morison’s clincher, said: “I’m buzzing. We said before we don’t care who scores as long as we win and get to the Champ. But Steve’s done it all season and I’m glad he got the goal – the silver fox.”
