Voices on the fire
Nicola Sturgeon
Just visited the scene of last night’s fire to thank @fire_scot and other emergency workers, and to offer support to staff and students of @GSofA. It is a heartbreaking sight, but we must remain thankful that the speed and skill of those responding prevented any loss of life.
University of Glasgow @UofGlasgow
Devastated to wake up to news of the fire at the Glasgow School of Art. All our thoughts at UofG are with our colleagues and friends at @GSofA this morning. We hope everyone is safe.
Paul Sweeney MP
Devastated that a major fire has broken out at the Glasgow School of Art tonight. The Mack has been undergoing restoration since the last devastating fire in 2014. @scotfire_ glasgo are doing everything they can to salvage the most architecturally important building in Glasgow.
Glasgow City Council
It has obviously been a difficult and worrying night in the city centre - and, as always, we’re really grateful for the work of @fire_scot and support from @policescotland and @ Scotambservice #GlasgowFire
Susan Aitken
Devastating news about the ongoing incident at the Glasgow School of Art. Thoughts with all the emergency services as they work their way through this. Glasgow City Council teams on hand to assist residents and those affected. Please stay safe.
Jack Carr
The sun is rising over the Glasgow School of Art to illuminate a heartbreaking scene. Thoughts are with the staff and students. Glasgow mourns her lost architectural masterpiece and hopes it will once again rise defiantly from the ashes.
Dr Henna Karhapää
This is absolutely devastating. Hope everyone is safe. Glasgow will endure, the city has amazing communal spirit.

How could this have happened for a second time? It looks like it has spread EVEN FASTER this time with extensively more damage. All that time, effort and money over the last 4 years wasted.
Clare Marlow
Heartbreaking news. Were there no sprinklers installed as part of the refurb? Completely preventable tragedy.
Phil Miller
The last time I was inside the Mack, the ‘hen run’ had been restored, the library was getting back together, the new roof was in place. It was a working building again after the May 2014 fire..and now this.
